Children’s illnesses are the scariest experiences in a parent’s life, and when you need to urgently hospitalize a very sick child, you don’t think about anything else, other than how to get help faster to make him well. If you’re a parent, you know what it’s like – you grasp the reality that you need specialized help, you take your child in your arms, and rush to the emergency room. You don’t even have time to think about the near future, and so you find yourself hospitalized, with a small child, without sanitary tissues, water or hygiene items.
That is the reason why we thought of helping the parents admitted to the Constanta County Clinical Emergency Hospital with a small hygiene kit containing wet wipes, toothbrush and toothpaste, toilet paper, disposable cups and two instant coffee packets (because we know that a sick child also means a tired parent). Thus, when you arrive at the ward, the nurses leave a bag on your bed in which you find a minimum necessary until you manage to settle down and receive everything you need from home. And if you didn’t take any water with you, know that there are water dispensers in the hallway that we also provided and that you can use.
We began in 2021 and we already have over 6500 packages delivered to the Pediatric and Pediatric Surgery departments in Constanța. During the summer, the number of patients hospitalized in the pediatric department of the Constanta County Clinical Emergency Hospital doubles, being the only department in the Dobrogea area that treats a more complex range of pediatric cases, and able to receive all the little tourists who pass through our county.
We want to support this project further. We would not have succeeded without the help of the volunteers who come to prepare these packages, the nurses who carry them from us to the ward, the nurses who distribute them and let us know what the needs are on the ward and, of course, the sponsors who offer us help to be able to put as many things as possible in the bag.
