How we owned Swimathon 2022 in Bucharest

What is our secret? How do we manage to raise the most money at the Swimathon every year? We received this question from our friends from the Bucharest Community Foundation, the organizers of the event, and it got us thinking. Every year, Swimathon Bucharest makes this fundraising event through swimming available to associations that want to do good. Each swimmer/fundraiser mobilizes their community and friends to support their favourite project.

Our team met all of its goals again this year. 509 donors contributed to the next three months of the home care programme for children with cancer.

100,200 lei, collected little by little, is a great achievement. This means money but also the smiles of a child who stays at home instead of going to the hospital. There are tears of joy in the eyes of mothers who breathe a sigh of relief that at least today they don’t have to go on the road with a seriously ill child.

How do we make it? It is not difficult for us. All these children with serious illnesses and all their families bear the burden. We are here for them, to listen to them, to communicate further their needs and voice, and to bring together all those who want to help.

We believe in people’s desire to help and be good, all the time. Every year during the Swimathon event, we encourage our friends to donate. There are people who believe in us and in our projects, who know us and follow our successes, who know that we rely on their help. Each donation comes with enthusiasm, with encouragement and with an energy that is stronger than anything and that helps us overcome all the obstacles on the way.

We would not have succeeded without the team of 26 swimmers-fundraisers who with enthusiasm and dedication encouraged their friends to donate. Some of them even swam on June 18 at the Dinamo Olympic pool to motivate their donors.

We would not have succeeded without the support of the two schools in Constanța that organized charity events at the end of the school year, directing the collected amounts to our project. Children, parents and teachers at Spectrum School and School no. 8, some of whom have been our volunteers for several years, carried on our good message.

The youngest swimmer in our team – Natalia (7 years old).
