September- Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Every year, the month of September brings with it an opportunity for us to pause and reflect on our mission, which is closely tied to the fight against childhood cancer. This month is dedicated to the brave children facing the greatest challenge of their lives, as well as to their families and to all those who wish to help and support this cause.

In Romania, approximately 400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, with leukemia being the most common diagnosis. According to a study initiated by us and conducted in collaboration with the “Ion Chiricuţă” Oncology Institute in Cluj-Napoca and the Joint Research Center – Cancer Information Unit – European Commission, 70% of these children survive. However, the diagnosis is a major challenge for both the children and their families, a long and winding road that requires constant support.

Over the years, our efforts have been focused on projects aimed at helping children with cancer and their families. The Home Care project, which has been active since 2018, is concrete and ongoing support that we provide to children in Dobrogea and Muntenia. Simultaneously, we work on improving and modernizing pediatric oncology services in the country by supporting the National Childhood Cancer Registry and developing the Dara digital platform. We aspire to and work towards increasing the chances of survival for children with cancer in Romania, as well as improving their quality of life and treatment conditions for these children and their families.
